hen Richard Miller founded the agency in 1937, he had been a purchasing agent for Studebaker Automotive selling fire policies out of his home on a part time basis. Several years later, when insurance became his full time occupation he opened an office in downtown Bremen.

As the agency grew both internally and through an acquisition, additional staffing became necessary. In the early 1960's both of Richard's sons, Dan and Doug Miller, joined the business and the corporation, which still exists today, Richard S. Miller & Sons, Inc, was established.

From the 1960's through the late 1970's it truly was a family business. Richard's wife Edith did most of the bookkeeping, while Dan's wife Jan and Doug's wife Joyce pitched in with secretarial duties. The agency also added real estate and tax preparation services to provide additional revenue resources.

In 1987 Richard's grandson, Greg Miller, moved back to Bremen after working for two insurance companies out of college. Greg's expertise was commercial insurance and the agency started to experience tremendous growth. From 1987 through 1995 additional insurance markets were obtained while existing relationships were solidified. With automation becoming an industry standard, the agency purchased the Applied Agency Management System in 1995. This system allowed for business efficiencies, which were never imagined. In 1995 the agency was doing 5 times the business they were 10 years earlier with the same staffing! To compliment its growth and expand its geographical presence in Marshall County, in 1999 the Norcen Agency was purchased. This added a satellite office in Culver, IN. Many common company relationships were in place with this acquisition as well as new markets made available. In 2007, Richard S. Miller and Sons partnered with Keystone Insurers Group. Keystone is an independent insurance agency group, serving over 150,000 individuals, businesses, and 'not for profit' organizations through an extensive network of locally owned and operated agency partners. As one of the largest privately held insurance firms in the nation, we have developed positions of prominence among numerous regional, national, and global insurers. This position allows us to serve your insurance needs to the fullest extent. To create additional efficiencies necessary to maintain a competitive edge, investments in automation continue. Company relationships have never been stronger with agency goals being realized year in and year out. The future is indeed bright as we complete our 70th year in business!
